We were at Seneca Polytechnic and here's why that matters

Before the event
Before the event

On May 26, Nrolled showed up at the Seneca Summer Career Fair at York Campus, and we're glad we did.

We came to meet students. What we found was an environment with people ready to work, eager to learn, and looking for a door in.

The first job is the hardest to get

Hospitality is one of the most accessible industries for first-time workers. It teaches real skills fast: how to read a room, manage pressure, work as part of a team. But getting that first shift, without a resume full of experience, can feel like a closed loop.

That's a problem we've been thinking about since the start.

Nrolled built Surge as a managed marketplace for hospitality work. Not a gig platform. A vetted network where workers are matched to real shifts at real venues, with the support and structure that comes with being part of something organized.

For students, that distinction matters. A first job shapes how you see work. We want that experience to be a good one.

What we shared at the fair

At the Seneca booth, we talked to students about what working in hospitality actually looks like: the pace, the variety, and the skills that transfer far beyond the industry.

We shared how Surge connects workers to professional-grade events at venues across the GTA. We talked about what it means to be part of a vetted network: the training, the structure, and the reliability that operators expect and workers deserve.

And we listened. Students had questions about flexible scheduling, about what a shift actually looks like, about how to get started without experience holding them back. Good questions. The kind that tell you there's genuine interest.

Why campus events like this one matter

The hospitality industry runs on people. Events don't happen without servers, bartenders, and coordinators who show up prepared and ready.

And students, often working around academic schedules, looking for meaningful income, building their professional confidence, are a natural fit for the industry. The challenge has always been the connection: matching the right person to the right opportunity, at the right time.

That's what Nrolled is built to do.

Career fairs like Seneca's aren't just recruiting events. They're where the pipeline starts. We were proud to be part of that conversation.

We'll Be Back

The welcome we received at York Campus was genuine. The energy in the room was worth the trip.

We're planning to be at the next events. If you're a student who stopped by the booth, or one who missed us, you can learn more about joining the Surge network at nrolled.com.

Your first shift may be closer than you think.
